Body Lift

Body Lift Plastic Surgery, also known as “belt lipectomy” or “circumferential abdominoplasty” is a plastic surgery procedure performed by the Body Lift Plastic Surgeon that is similar to the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) –  but instead of limiting the lift and correction of the excess skin and fat to the abdomen and anterior body, the incision placed by the Plastic Surgeon is extended around the hips. Body Lift plastic surgery removes excess hanging skin folds of the abdomen. In addition, a Body Lift also removes excess hanging skin of the lower back and helps to lift the sagging buttocks.

Body Lift Plastic Surgery is typically performed on patients who have developed excess skin or fat after having lost a substantial amount of weight. Body lift candidates could have lost the weight from either dieting or exercise or by having the ever more popular surgical weight loss procedures such as the Lap Band and Gastric Bypass {Bariatric Surgery}. Now that the weight is gone, patients may feel uncomfortable with the residual skin deformities and suffer from complications such as dermatitis or even skin infections.  The Body Lift Plastic Surgeon offers complimentary consultations at his state of the art surgical facility.

The contours of the hips, thighs and buttocks are corrected by elevating the loose, hanging skin and fat superiorly and removing the excess skin. The muscles of the abdomen can be tightened to repair the weakness of the muscles or “diastasis” (separation or spreading) that occurs after child birth or internal weight gain. In addition to improvement of the lower body, the back rolls may be improved. At times, it can be combined with a lift of the inside thighs, arm lifts {brachioplasty} breast lifts {mastopexy} or liposuction.

In general the prospective Body Lift patient should be evaluated by their medical doctor prior to any surgery to ensure that they are medically sound to have a Body Lift. The Body Lift surgery as performed by the Plastic Surgeon may require somewhere between 3 to 6 hours depending on the extent of the patient’s needs.

Recovery from Body Lift plastic surgery takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks depending on the extent of the procedure. Most Body Lift Plastic Surgery patients can exercise lightly at one week, begin moderate cardio workouts at 2 weeks and return to full exercise activity at 6 weeks.
